Your Amber Valley Green councillors have been working hard to try to improve Amber Valley’s Local Plan. This determines what can be built and where for the next 10-15 years.

Dave Wells, Alison McDermott and Jamie Walls have supported the work of Save the Green Belt groups, helping to get answers to their questions, and are pleased that the Green Belt will now be protected.

However, there are several problems with the draft Local Plan, not least that it has largely been influenced by developers.

This means it includes around 1,500 more homes than the government says the borough needs – and most of those are planned for greenfield sites. While not covered by Green Belt protection, greenfield land still needs to be saved from being turned into sprawling housing estates where everyone needs a car to get around.

Cllr Alison McDermott says:

“The government has told cities like Derby to take more houses. This is sensible as there are amenities, shorter commutes and less need for cars.

We want to see more smaller, affordable homes for local people. The Conservative council should not allow any of Derby City’s housing allocation to be built on Amber Valley’s land.”
