Green Party Deputy-Leader Zack Polanski visited Amber Valley on 25th March to meet Green councillors and candidates in the May elections and talk to local volunteers.
Deputy Leader of the Green Party, Zack Polanski, visited Belper and Horsley Woodhouse to support Green councillors, candidates and volunteers.
Zack was keen to meet Green candidates, Councillor Alison McDermott and Eva Long for Duffield and Quarndon, Councillor Jamie Walls and Councillor Gez Kinsella for Belper South, and Amanda Paget and Lian Pizzey for Smalley, Shipley and Horsley Woodhouse.
Dropping in at the Railway in Belper, Zack spent an hour with volunteers and candidates, learning about the area in the build up to the Local Election on 4th May 2023. In particular, Zack was keen to hear about the impact of current Green councillors on the Borough and County Council. Zack said, “It’s clear that Belper, Duffield and Quarndon are already well-served by Jamie, Alison and Gez. Just imagine how much more they could do for Amber Valley, with even more Greens on the Borough Council. I have no doubt that Eva, Amanda and Lian will be just as competent, committed and effective.”
Eva Long is hoping to be elected in May. She said, “We need more Green councillors on Amber Valley Borough Council to look after the residents of Duffield and Quarndon and make sure their voices are heard”.
In Horsley Woodhouse, Zack visited the Old Oak where he met volunteers from Mapperley, Shipley, Smalley and Heanor Gate. He was joined by Smalley Parish Councillors Amanda Paget and Lian Pizzey who are standing for the Borough Council in May. Amanda said, “Meeting Zack was really inspirational.” Lian added, “Greens work hard for their communities all year round and it was wonderful to be able to tell one of our national leaders about what’s happening here.”
Zack also thanked all the volunteers who support the Green Party and said, “As a result of your hard work Greens are in a position to make a real difference. Only Green Party councillors are free to make their own mind about every issue and vote accordingly. They always truly represent the best interests of residents.”
Across England, there are now over 550 elected Green councillors, a number set to rise on 4th May. In Amber Valley, Green candidates will appear on the ballot paper in every ward in the borough.
